Developed by Relic Entertainment, Company of Heroes Online is a free-to-play, real-time strategy online game that allows players to buy special units and upgrades with either points earned in the game or real money -- the studio says these purchases do not give players an advantage.
The prepaid cards, which GMG will roll out at retailers across the country as Company of Heroes Online launches in North America this fall, allow gamers to buy virtual goods without using a credit card or sharing personal details.
"Company of Heroes was a critically acclaimed hit when it was first released and now a whole new generation of gamers can experience this great title risk free thanks to the free-to-play micro-transaction model," says THQ's Global Brand Management VP Travis Plane.
Plane continues, "We are pleased to work with GMG to offer digital currency cards at retail, making it even easier for gamers to utilize our in-game store."
